The canyon-like valley of the Elbe River, through which the river enters the České středohoří Mountains, is called Porta Bohemica or the Gate of Bohemia. It is located approximately 5 km downstream from Litoměřice. The banks are lined with rocky slopes for a length of about 4 km. Here, the Elbe River has created an unusual landscape with a deep river valley cutting into the České středohoří Mountains. On the right bank of the Elbe, there are views from the hills of Kalvárie, Hrádek, and Malá Vendule, and on the left bank from the hill of Dobrý and the Mlynářův kámen lookout point. An unforgettable view of the Gate of Bohemia can be enjoyed from the deck of the Porta Bohemica boat, which sails regularly during the season from Litoměřice, Lovosice, and Velké Žernoseky. In the immediate vicinity of the Gate of Bohemia are extensive vineyards where Žernosek wine is grown, which is among the highest quality in the Czech Republic.
