- The Elbe Cycle Route in the Ústí Region
Střekov Castle is located in the district of the same name in the statutory city of Ústí nad Elbem. It is one of the dominant features of the regional capital. The restored castle ruins form a striking landmark in the south of the city above the right bank of the Elbe on a 100-meter-high phonolite rock. The castle was founded in 1318 to protect the trade route. The romantic appearance of the castle ruins attracted a number of important personalities (e.g., painters Adrian Ludwig Richter and Ernst Gustav Doerell, composer Richard Wagner, and poet Karel Hynek Mácha).
