The municipality of Velké Březno is located about 8 km from the regional town of Ústí nad Labem. The most important tourist place of Velké Březno is the local castle. It was built in the years 1842-45 for the highest purgrave of the Bohemian Kingdom, Count Karel Chotek, in the style of late Austrian Empire. It was then rebuilt in the Romantic Neo-Renaissance style. Žofie Chotková, the granddaughter of the founder of the chateau, also stayed at the chateau. As the wife of the heir to the Habsburg throne, Franz Ferdinand d'Este, she was shot together with him in 1914 during the Sarajevo assassination that started the First World War. The castle is surrounded by a beautiful natural English park with many rare trees and shrubs. In Velké Březno we can also take an excursion to the famous Velké Březno Brewery, whose history dates back to 1606. The brewery offers visitors a demonstration of the classic technology of brewing Czech beer, a tour of all the main facilities of the Velké Březno brewery and a beer tasting.
